The main focus of our business is moving bulk commodity barge shipments between Cincinnati, OH and Pittsburgh, PA. These consist primarily of crude oil, finished petroleum products, fertilizer, grain, and coal, but occasionally we move special freight that is extremely heavy or oversized. As a rule, shipping large power transformers, oversized or heavy equipment, and other miscellaneous items is much more cost effective on a barge than moving them by truck.
It has been our goal at AM&O Towing to continue to grow our barge company while supporting as many Ohio River based businesses as possible. We are proud of our contribution to the local community, and continue to provide jobs and financial support to the East Liverpool area.
Barge Unloading & Fleeting Services
Massive barge shipments of bulk product are useless without a way to off-load them quickly and efficiently. For years the Ohio River suffered from a lack of these types of freight transfer facilities, so in 1985, Steve Price expanded AM&O’s capabilities and we still offer these services today.
We now offer a fleeting area large enough to accommodate up to 25 jumbo barges. This is a staging area for barges waiting to be loaded and unloaded, and waiting for pick up by line-haul boats heading south.
Our barge freight loading and unloading service includes the following equipment:

Dry Dock Boat Repairs & Maintenance
We now currently own and operate three dry docks for the maintenance and repair of private and commercial vessels:
- Drydock #1: 1,000-ton Lift with 60′ between the wing walls
- Drydock #2: 1,200-ton Lift with 60′ between the wing walls
- Drydock #3 (New): 400-ton Lift with 60′ between the wing walls
